GATES, Workshop / Recherche
Le 10 décembre 2025
This workshop is organized by Evis SAMMOUTIS (GATES Senior Fellow).
This seminar offers a rigorous theoretical and practical study of spectral music. It will examine the historical, philosophical, and sociological contexts of the movement, while considering the challenges and innovations that have shaped its development.
Through selected examples from the repertoire, participants will be introduced to seminal works by leading composers and to core concepts such as microtonality, spectral analysis, and timbral development. The seminar will also address the aesthetic foundations of spectral thought and its influence on contemporary composition.
The session is designed primarily for tertiary-level music students across disciplines (including musicology, theory, composition, performance, psychoacoustics, music technology, and education), but it will also be accessible and engaging for the general public. The format will be interactive, with opportunities for discussion.
The seminar will be conducted predominantly in English.
Evis SAMMOUTIS is Associate Professor of Composition at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, and Co-founder and Artistic Director
