From 18 February 2025 to 19 February 2025

Daniel Sabzghabaei, GATES Post-doc, will present the premiere of his new work "In the skin" as part of "Erinnern und vergessen" (Remember and Forget), a concert by the collective of musicians, Ensemble Proton Bern. This piece is deeply connected to his research, as it explores the stories and histories of Iranian immigrants worldwide.
As the son of an Iranian immigrant to the USA, Daniel Sabzghabaei constantly asks himself what his late father held on to and let go of along the way. What sounds and memories have remained with him? What reminiscences comforted him? In the skin is about cultural memory and the ‘memory debris’ that immigrants and their children accumulate across oceans and centuries of dispersion.
Ensemble Proton Bern is a "positively charged" collective of musicians and an essential component of the contemporary classical music scene. The eight musicians of Ensemble Proton Bern come together to create new elements in every work they play and explore their musical properties. The city of Bern plays host to this laboratory, and on the banks of the Aare River, the ensemble performs as Ensemble in Residence at the Dampfzentrale Bern four to six times per season.
